WHAT IS THROTTLE LAG?

The Lexus GX uses an Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system, meaning no mechanical cable connects your gas pedal to the engine. When you press the pedal, a pedal position sensor converts that input into a signal, which the ECU reads and uses to command the throttle body to open. That signal processing chain introduces an inherent delay before the engine responds. Redundant sensors built into the system for safety add further processing time.

On top of that, Lexus deliberately programs additional lag into the ECU to smooth out power delivery, protect fuel economy, and accommodate a wide range of driving styles. Lexus's throttle mapping prioritizes refinement and comfort over immediate response, which works against the GX when you need quick acceleration during a highway merge, trail obstacle, or any situation demanding instant power.

The basic steps of the Pedal Commander® installation are always the same regardless of the vehicle's make and model:

Turn off the ignition and wait 10-15 minutes with your driver's door open to allow your ECU to shut down.

Disconnect your accelerator pedal assembly plug, then plug in the heads to connectors on the Pedal Commander® harness.

Clean up the area where you want to mount the control unit with the alcohol wipe. Stick the bracket with the supplied velcro.

After you make sure the cables are secure and won't be tangled, you are ready to enjoy Pedal Commander®.

Made a very noticeable difference in pedal response and acceleration. Has four modes; Eco, City, Sport and Sport+ which also has eight levels within those modes. I get plenty of torque with just City +2 mode. The sport and sport+ modes are very aggressive but in a good way! I don’t personally use those modes but it’s good to know that it’s there if I’m feeling brave enough to use them! I highly recommend this product!

I use this in both my 5th gen Toyota 4Runners and my 5th gen Lexus GX-460. If you want to improve gas milage, increase performance then using the peddal commander is the absolute best way to achieve that. Install is very very very simple and straight foreard. I love this. When I bought my 2023 GX 460 to replace my 2007 GX 470, I was surprised at how unresponsive the car was. It drove like a six cylinder and was a but of a dog. Our 2007 takes off on a dime and is super peppy so we were a bit disappointed. After receiving a recommendation to try Pedal Commander we gave it a try. This was installed in a 2013 gx460 which is a great vehicle, however the throttle lag is almost like driving a old turbo charged car. The pedal commander solved the problem and makes drive it much more enjoyable. It was expensive which is why it got 4 stars and not 5.

I installed this in a 2021 Lexus GX 460 and after 150 miles I can say it shifts like a passenger car and gets about 1.25 mpg improvement (Sport Mode). The throttle response is excellent and now this thing drives amazingly better. Installation 20 min, and the Bluetooth app for iPhone is flawless.
