Pedal Commander FAQ

General Questions

How does Pedal Commander Work?

Pedal Commander is a throttle response controller designed to enhance your vehicle's acceleration and driving experience. It works by intercepting and modifying the electronic signals sent between the accelerator pedal and the engine's control unit (ECU). When you press the accelerator pedal, Pedal Commander adjusts the signal to reduce throttle lag, providing a faster and more responsive throttle response. The device offers customizable modes and sensitivity settings, allowing you to tailor the throttle response to your driving style and conditions, whether you're navigating heavy traffic or driving off-road.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of its functionality:

1 -) Signal Interception and Modification:

- When you press the accelerator pedal, Pedal Commander intercepts the signal sent to the vehicle's electronic throttle system.

-The device then modifies this signal based on your selected settings, eliminating throttle lag and providing a faster throttle response.

2 -) Customizable Modes and Sensitivity Settings:

-Eco Mode: Provides a more gradual throttle response for improved fuel efficiency and controlled power delivery.

-City Mode: Offers a balanced throttle response ideal for everyday driving and navigating through city traffic.

-Sport Mode: Delivers a more aggressive throttle response, enhancing performance for spirited driving.

-Sport+ Mode: Maximizes throttle sensitivity for the most responsive acceleration, perfect for high-performance driving.

-Each mode has additional sensitivity settings, allowing further customization to suit your specific driving style and conditions.

3 -) Versatility and Adaptability:

-Driving Conditions: Adjust Pedal Commander to optimize throttle response for different scenarios, such as off-road adventures or heavy traffic.

-Vehicle Compatibility: Designed for a wide range of vehicles, making it a versatile modification for enhancing performance.

4 -) Enhanced Driving Experience:

-By reducing the delay in throttle response, Pedal Commander provides a more immediate and precise control over acceleration.

-This enhancement leads to a more engaging and enjoyable driving experience, whether you’re commuting daily or seeking performance on open roads.

By improving the communication between the accelerator pedal and the ECU, Pedal Commander allows you to unlock your vehicle’s full potential, providing quicker access to its power and enhancing overall performance and control. Whether you’re looking to improve fuel efficiency, daily driving, or achieve high-performance acceleration, Pedal Commander is a valuable addition to any vehicle.

Will the Pedal Commander void my vehicle's warranty?

When a dealership does any work or repair, it runs a scan on the vehicle's computer to see if anything has been changed. Other aftermarket tuners and programmers leave "flags" on the ECU after they've been installed, and the flags will remain even after the part or tune has been removed. These digital footprints cause dealerships to void any claim or maintenance program.

Pedal Commander is 100% UNTRACEABLE by dealerships because it doesn't leave these "flags" or make permanent changes to your ECU. Before going in for service, just make sure you turn the unit off and tuck it out of sight, and you're good to go!

If you're going in for any repair or problem, we recommend removing the unit just to be safe. Dealerships almost always try to avoid warranty payouts and physically look for aftermarket parts while running diagnostics.

Does the Pedal Commander increase horsepower?

Pedal Commander is designed to improve your vehicle's throttle response, making it feel more powerful and responsive. However, it does not actually increase the engine's horsepower or torque.

The device works by modifying the electronic signals sent between the accelerator pedal and the ECU, allowing the driver to access the vehicle's existing power more quickly and easily. By reducing the delay between pressing the accelerator pedal and the engine's response, Pedal Commander enhances the overall driving experience, making the vehicle feel more responsive and powerful.

While Pedal Commander improves the feel of acceleration, it's important to note that it does not increase the actual horsepower or torque of the engine.

Will the Pedal Commander work with my existing performance tune/mapping?

Absolutely! Pedal Commander compliments any tune, performance chip, or aftermarket add-on with the ultimate throttle response. We only intercept the electronic signal and remap the throttle curve, so it is a simple and effective upgrade that does not interfere with the ECU’s tuning.

Do I have to take my car to a shop to get my Pedal Commander installed?

No, the Pedal Commander is an easy-to-install, plug-and-play unit that takes just a few minutes to set up and run. To prevent any issues, make sure to follow the instructions included with your unit. Visit our Installation Page to watch installation videos as well.

Will I save fuel using the Pedal Commander?

Using the Pedal Commander's Eco mode has the potential to help you save fuel by providing a more gradual and efficient throttle response. When the Eco mode is selected, Pedal Commander sends a modified signal to the vehicle's electronic system, reducing throttle response. This can promote smoother and more gradual acceleration, which may result in lower fuel consumption in conditions where instant power is not required.

The Eco mode encourages a more gentle and efficient driving style by reducing the amount of power delivered to the engine when you press the accelerator pedal. This can help avoid sudden acceleration and rapid speed changes, which are typically less fuel-efficient. Eco mode can be particularly beneficial in stop-and-go traffic or situations where maintaining a consistent speed is important.

While Eco mode on the Pedal Commander can contribute to maximizing fuel economy, it is designed to provide a slower throttle response. Keep this in mind when selecting modes for different driving scenarios, as Eco mode may not be ideal for situations requiring quick acceleration.

Is the Pedal Commander waterproof?

Pedal Commander is not waterproof, but it is designed to be water-resistant. The device is built with a high-quality casing and sealed to protect it from water splashes, but it should not be submerged in water.

While the device is designed to resist water damage from splashes and light rain, it's important to avoid exposing it to excessive moisture or water, as this could potentially cause damage to the internal components of the Pedal Commander. If you need to use the device in wet conditions, it's recommended to cover it with a protective casing or bag to prevent it from getting wet.

Overall, while the Pedal Commander is designed to be water-resistant, appropriate precautions must be taken to protect it from water damage and ensure it continues functioning properly.

Does the Pedal Commander work on manual transmission?

Yes! The Pedal Commander can be used regardless of the transmission type. The unit only connects to the throttle pedal and modifies the signal that goes to the ECU. It has nothing to do with the transmission.

Product Questions

Can I change modes while I'm driving/accelerating?

We recommend changing the modes of the Pedal Commander unit (Eco, City, Sport, or Sport+) while your foot is off the accelerator or while cruise control is disengaged. This will prevent any CEL or EPC lights from coming on and putting your vehicle into limp mode. Each mode has different signal strengths, so it’s better to do so as a preventative measure.

What are the different modes of the Pedal Commander?

Pedal Commander has four driving modes that adjust the sensitivity and response of the throttle. Each mode has a different signal strength that adjusts your vehicle's throttle response. You can switch modes anytime to match your driving conditions and preferences, allowing you to customize your driving experience to suit your needs. These four driving modes are:

Eco: This mode reduces throttle response to save fuel. It is ideal for everyday relaxed driving situations or stop-and-go urban traffic where the situation does not require much acceleration. This mode also perfectly doubles as a valet mode if you have a higher-powered vehicle or as an off-road mode when you need controlled power delivery on rough and slippery surfaces with your off-road vehicle.

City: This mode is somewhere between Eco and Sport modes. It offers more agility than your vehicle’s stock accelerator pedal. It is ideal for city driving, where you need to accelerate and decelerate often. City mode provides much more rapid acceleration than stock. Many customers say City mode allows the vehicle to accelerate as it should have from the factory. It gives you the response of an "old school" cable throttle with a 1:1 pedal movement-to-throttle opening ratio.

Sport: This mode increases the throttle response to provide a more responsive and engaging driving experience. It is ideal for sporty driving and situations requiring quicker acceleration. This is where Pedal Commander starts to enhance your driving experience.

Sport+: This mode provides the most aggressive throttle response and is ideal for high-performance driving. It gives maximum throttle response for the most performance-oriented driving experiences, such as racing, track days, autocross events, or general high-performance driving. This mode is not recommended for daily driving situations.

Why is Eco Mode not working? All the other modes light up, but it won't go into Eco.

To go into Eco Mode, press and hold the yellow star (program) button for 3 seconds. This safety feature prevents you from accidentally selecting the mode with a drastically slower response.

What are the (-) and (+) settings on the Pedal Commander?

The (-) and (+) buttons on the Pedal Commander device are used to fine-tune the sensitivity of the throttle response within the selected mode to your liking. The (-) button reduces the sensitivity, while the (+) button increases it.

For example, if you are in Sport mode and want to precisely tune the throttle response to better suit your driving style, you can press the (-) button to reduce the sensitivity of the throttle response. This will make the vehicle's acceleration less sensitive to slight movements of the accelerator pedal. Alternatively, if you want a more responsive and sporty feel, press the (+) button to increase the sensitivity of the throttle response.

The (-) and (+) buttons are for fine-tuning the Pedal Commander settings to suit your personal driving preferences, style, and the conditions you're driving in. It's important to note that changes to the sensitivity settings may affect the vehicle's fuel economy, so it's recommended to find the right balance between performance and fuel efficiency that works best for your needs.

How do you turn the Pedal Commander off?

Cycle through the modes using the yellow star (program) button to turn the Pedal Commander off. It should go from City to Sport, to Sport+, and then to all the LED lights being off. When all the lights are off, the Pedal Commander is off, and you are back to your vehicle's stock throttle response.

Do I need to restart the desired mode on Pedal Commander every time I start the car?

The Pedal Commander has a memory function that saves your last selected mode. It will automatically return to that mode the next time you start your vehicle, so you don't need to re-select your preferred mode each time you start your vehicle.

Do I need to manually turn the Pedal Commander off when I am done driving?

You do not need to worry about manually turning the Pedal Commander off. The Pedal Commander unit will shut off when the ECU in your vehicle goes to "sleep," which is usually 5 minutes after you shut off the engine. The unit will also stop drawing power from the vehicle, and your vehicle’s battery will not be affected by the Pedal Commander upgrade.
