WHAT IS THROTTLE LAG?

Like almost all modern trucks, the GMC Canyon uses an electronic throttle control (ETC) system. It means that the gas pedal is not physically connected to the throttle body anymore. There are sensors and actuators that replace the old mechanical cable, and the process is controlled by the ECU. The factory electronic throttle calibration is restricted and delayed to meet emissions regulations, fuel efficiency targets, and to make the vehicle suitable for a wide range of drivers. However, these restrictions and the electronic process cause throttle lag.

The Pedal Commander® throttle response controller eliminates throttle lag by remapping the restrictive factory throttle signal. You get sharper, more direct gas pedal response tuned specifically for your Canyon. Whether you have the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation, Pedal Commander® is compatible with 2007 and up GMC Canyons.

    The basic steps of the Pedal Commander® installation are always the same regardless of the vehicle's make and model:
  • Turn off the ignition and wait 10-15 minutes with your driver's door open to allow your ECU to shut down.
  • Disconnect your accelerator pedal assembly plug, then plug in the heads to connectors on the Pedal Commander® harness.
  • Clean up the area where you want to mount the control unit with the alcohol wipe. Stick the bracket with the supplied velcro.
  • After you make sure the cables are secure and won't be tangled, you are ready to enjoy Pedal Commander®.
