What is the Pedal Commander?
If you are looking to improve your overall driving enjoyment or improve your gas mileage, you need Pedal Commander. Most newer cars are manufactured with Electronic Throttle Control (ETC). This means your acceleration is no longer powered with the old school throttle cable that gave you a linear relation between your foot and the throttle body, but now everything is powered by electronics and your car’s computer (ECU). The electronic throttle does not provide the same performance as it creates a lag from your initial accelerator push.
Pedal Commander allows you to have more control over your vehicle. Manufacturers produce vehicles as a “one size fits all” process in an attempt to make a majority of their customers happy as a whole. For lack of a better term, it makes the vehicle “idiot proof”. But you don’t just move into a house and leave it alone, do you? No, you customize it to make it more comfortable and convenient for your individual needs. This is what Pedal Commander does for your car. It gives you the ability to make your gas pedal more sensitive for a sportier feel, or less sensitive if your main goal is to increase fuel economy. You also have the ability to change between modes as your needs change! In addition to these modes, you also have eight sensitivity levels to play with. You truly have the ability to make your vehicle’s response exactly how you want it, when you want it.
Eco mode slows down the throttle response.
It allows you to maximize fuel economy up to 20% over the stock ratings. It also doubles as a valet mode to keep a driver (or even your newly licensed teenager) from being able to accelerate above a certain rate.
City mode is perfect for daily driving.
Many of our customers say that city mode allows the vehicle to accelerate as it should have from the factory. It gives you the response of an "old school" throttle cable with a 1:1 pedal-to-throttle acceleration ratio.
Sport Mode is favorite amongst spirited drivers who are looking to get-up-and-go.
This mode allows you to accelerate a lot quicker than Eco and City Mode, which can help you in various situations.
Sport+ mode is not for the light hearted!
Gives any vehicle the response and acceleration of a race car, allowing you to get up and go when you need to without waiting for the ECU to catch up to your foot. Perfect for spirited driving or on a race track. Please use with caution!
Pedal Commander is made by Vitalen Auto Performance, Inc, Incorporated and located in Camarillo California, and manufactured in Turkey. It holds CE, E24, ISO 9001, and ISO 140001 certifications, which means that this product complies with the essential requirements of the health, safety, and environmental protection legislations. After having major success in Europe, the decision was made to share this product with the United States beginning in 2015.
Why do I need the Pedal Commander?
New vehicles are changing every year, mostly because of developments in electronics. Vehicle systems that were mechanically controlled are now controlled by the vehicle’s computer. One such new system is electronic throttle control, known as drive-by-wire.
The drive-by-wire system eliminates the conventional mechanically operated system that had been used since the beginning of the cars. The standard mechanically operated accelerator pedal uses a cable attached from the pedal to the throttle body. When you pressed down on the pedal, the cable opens the throttle plate, allowing air to pass through into the engine. The engine RPM is directly proportional to the angle of the throttle plate. With drive-by-wire, the cable is replaced by an electronically controlled system using advanced electro-mechanical actuators. In place of a cable, an accelerator pedal position sensor is connected to the accelerator pedal. This sensor determines the position of the accelerator pedal and signals this information to the vehicle’s ECU, in turn, commands the throttle control motor to open or close the throttle valve.
The drive-by-wire system has its limitations; however, the main problem is that throttle response time is significantly slower. Throttle response, also known as vehicle’s responsiveness, is a measure of how fast an internal combustion engine can raise its power output from a low RPM to a higher more powerful RPM in response to a driver’s request for acceleration; pushing the pedal down. Throttle response is often jumbled with better power; however, throttle response is actually a measurement of the time taken for a change in power output.
Which Pedal Commander Unit Should I Buy?
We have 2 different types of Pedal Commander: Bluetooth and Powersports.
Bluetooth Units: Our bluetooth units are our most popular Pedal Commander Units. With over 65 different Pedal Commander Units, we program them to suit your vehicle. You can buy them for almost any car brand and make out in the market right now. With the Bluetooth capabilities, you can control your throttle response controller with a tap of a button from your smartphone with our app.
Powersports Units: Our Powersports units are specifically designed for off-road vehicles. So far, we support Can-ams and Polaris. They are also equipped with Bluetooth functionalities for full control with your smartphone.
Our goal is to solve this problem and get your vehicle to perform the way it should. The Pedal Commander solves this problem. It will bypass the ECU in the vehicle, and is designed to take the information right from the accelerator pedal position sensor and compile it in a high speed controller circuit. It also slightly advances that number and sends it directly to the ECU. By sending the information to the computer this way, a couple of checks that the engine computer will make can be bypassed before sending the signal to open the throttle plate.
We hope you enjoy the product as mush as we do.
