What's New with the 2023 Toyota Tacoma?

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma, a mid-size pickup truck, will compete against vehicles like the Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier, among others. With the launch on its way, drivers are wondering what to expect from the design, tow capacity, engine build, price, and release date.

Answering all these questions and a few extra ones like “is the new 2023 Tacoma hybrid ready?” and “what is the towing capacity of 2023 Tacoma?” all the question marks in your head will cease to exist. So, let’s jump right into the upcoming brand-new 2023 Tacoma specs!

What’s New With 2023 Tacoma Redesign and Interior?

These days, rigid plastics and simple materials are used liberally in all high-end cars and even their highest trim levels, just like the upcoming 2023 Tacoma redesign. This is the choice to be the most efficient manner to get complex structure details due to the materials' capability and to meet the affordability rate that the users demand.

Overview

The 2023 Tacoma now also features a power-adjustable driver's seat, which has been demanded for a time now. Still, Tacoma is known for its small spaces. The Tacoma's occupants will have to squeeze into the crew cab's back seat since the legroom is a bit poor.

If you're planning to get a 2023 Tacoma for family-size usage, you may want to consider checking out the Tundra instead. The Tacoma in 2023 has few storage compartments and a constrained carry-on room inside while having a five/six-foot bed with more than enough volume. There aren't many functional storage cubbies or bins beside the container on the center console.

The Tacoma is available with a 5 or 6-foot bed and an extended or crew cab. A 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 278 horsepower can (and should) be installed in place of the base model's 2.7-liter inline-4 engine. Even with the V-6, acceleration is at best sluggish. Expect 20 to 22 mpg in the majority of configurations.

The Tacoma performs best off-road, where ample ground clearance and a variety of off-road technology transform it into a natural rock crawler or mud plugger. Especially in TRD Off-Road or TRD Pro configuration.

Although it may be effective, it is not exceptionally cozy. Even without the optional sunroof, the front seats are low to the ground and have limited headroom.

Engine

The new Toyota Tacoma is available with two engines. A 2.7-liter inline-four with 159 horsepower and 180 lb.-ft. of torque serves as the standard engine. Competitors of the Tacoma don't have a base four-cylinder with such levels of power.

Fuel efficiency ratings for 2023 have not yet been disclosed, but because nothing has changed, we anticipate seeing quite similar values to those for 2022. With four-wheel drive, the four-cylinder achieves 19/22/20 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the interstate, and 21 mpg combined (4x4). The base engine comes equipped with a six-speed automatic.

The upgraded version of the engine is a 3.5L V6 with 278 horsepower and 265 lb.-ft. of torque, which is much healthier. Despite the substantial power distinction, the upgraded V6 and the original inline four achieve similar levels of fuel efficiency. The V6 produces 19/24/21 with 4x2 and 18/22/20 with 4x4 when fitted with the standard six-speed automatic. A six-speed manual transmission with returns of 17/20/18 is an optional addition for the TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro.

Cab Options

The 2023 model year Tacoma has the options Access Cab and Double Cab, two cab sizes available for the Toyota’s midsize pickup truck Tacoma. The Access Cab is designed to allow access to two rows of seats through two doors, so keep that in mind.

Consider the Double Cab to be the truck with two additional doors. The Double Cab has four doors and greater passenger space in the back row. Both options have the Fiber-Reinforced Sheet-Molded Composite (SMC) inner bed.

Chrome Package and SX Package

The 2023 Tacoma SX Package, which was formerly offered on the SR grades, is now only offered on SR5s and is available in Access Cab or Double Cab models. The truck has black over-fenders for a tough stance and a strong appearance. Black wheels are also substituted for the SR5's stock 16-inch wheels.

Included in the SX Package there is blackout trim and black badging. Even the lug nuts match the black wheels, and more minor touches like the exterior mirrors being blacked off are not ignored. A distinctive bed graphic completes the set.

The 2023 Tacoma Chrome Package adopts a distinctive design approach. The Chrome Package adds a touch of class to only V6-powered SR5 Double Cabs with 5-foot beds in either 4x2 or 4x4. 18-inch alloy wheels with a chrome finish serve as its foundation.

It has an extra dash of style thanks to the tailgate TACOMA insert, exhaust tip, and outer door handles plated in chrome. A leather-wrapped gear knob inside completes the design.

2023 Tacoma Color: Solar Octane

Toyota's TRD Pro vehicles are distinguished by their vivid, striking colors. From their Voodoo blue in 2007 to their Inferno Orange in 2015, Toyota has kept releasing cars in unique, rare hues. Solar Octane, the newest coloring from Toyota, is an intense orange that, depending on the lighting, might appear coral or red.

2023 Tacoma Color: Electric Lime

Look for the Toyota Electric Lime on TRD Pro Models if you're seeking chic, dependable cars that command attention and can handle any adventure you choose, whether off-road or not. Electric Lime is a cyberpunk, futuristic color that adds more to the upcoming 2023 Toyota Tacoma.

2023 Tacoma Color: Lunar Rock

Lunar Rock is the ideal shade for everyone who enjoys the moon and outer space. The moon, space, and all of its undiscovered regions serve as the inspiration for this color. Lunar Rock has a chameleon-like quality to it, appearing grey in some lighting conditions and sometimes pale green.

2023 Tacoma Color: Barcelona Red Metallic

One of Toyota’s genuine colors, Barcelona Red in metallic, comes to Toyota in 2023 too. Barcelona Red has a decisive red color with a touch of darkness on it to do one thing, make it speedier. We all know the color red adds a little horsepower, don’t we?

2023 Tacoma Color: Ice Cap

This pale color has a cold undertone and is a classic gray blue. Design experts frequently utilize the LRV, or Light Reflectance Value measurement, to indicate the proportion of light reflected from a surface.

2023 Tacoma Color: Wind Chill Pearl

Wind Chill Pearl is an off-white shade with shine and a pearly finish. Additionally, some brilliant blue hues can be seen in it.

2023 Tacoma Color: Blue Crush Metallic

Users say that the Blue Crush in metallic is the best blue available after Toyota’s Cavalry Blue, which had a bit lighter hues in its spectrum.

2023 Tacoma Color: Celestial Silver Metallic

Celestial Silver in metallic is another user favorite on Toyota vehicles. Initially appearing as a much lighter flat silver when applied from the factory Toyota touch-up vial, it is actually a deep rich gray silver shade.

2023 Tacoma Color: Magnetic Gray Metallic

Toyota’s Magnetic Gray, coming in metallic, is more black than gray. Having that serious and tough look combined with a metallic finish to shine as dark as night.

How Much Can a 2023 Toyota Tacoma Tow?

The specs on the 2022 Tacoma were that the Tacoma's 3.5L V6 engine produces 278 horsepower and 265 lb.-ft. of torque. This means the 2022 Toyota Tacoma can tow up to 6800 pounds when equipped with the Tow Package.

But how much can a Toyota Tacoma tow next year? The rumor says that to be competitive, the upcoming Tacoma 2023 is anticipated to have a maximum towing rating of close to 7,500 lbs. By the end of this year, the 2023 Tacoma's new generation should have its tow premiere.

Car and Driver authors Austin Irwin and Eric Stafford have stated in their 2023 Tacoma Blog that “The Tacoma 2023 has a maximum towing capacity of 6800 lbs with rear-wheel drive and 6500 lbs with FWD. Only two-wheel drive models of the Tacoma with the four-cylinder engine have a maximum payload capacity of 1685 lbs; four-wheel-drive models equipped with the V-6 engine have substantially less capability.”

Is the New 2023 Tacoma Hybrid Ready?

As we get closer to the launch date, we see that Toyota makes no verifiable announcements on whether the 2023 Tacoma will be a hybrid. The addition of a hybrid powertrain in the new Toyota Tacoma for 2024 might represent a big change.

A 2.4-liter turbocharged engine and two electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear, might make up Toyota's Hybrid Max powertrain. Similar to the 2023 Crown, this hybrid version might include a direct shift 6-speed automatic transmission. In the Tacoma Hybrid, Hybrid Max could generate up to 350 horsepower.

Another possibility is that Toyota will equip the 2023 Tacoma hybrid version with a modified version of the 3.5L engine-based, 437 horsepower i-Force Max powertrain and 10-speed automated transmission found in the 2023 Tundra Hybrid.

The motor system of this powertrain uses bell housings. Between the engine and transmission, a motor generator with a clutch housed inside the bell housing enables effective use of the electric power stored in the traction battery.

Toyota has created a new Power Control Unit (PCU) for the Tundra Hybrid's powertrain. A Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery is located beneath the rear passenger seats and stores the hybrid pickup's green energy.

Trim Levels for 2023 Toyota Tacoma

A large Toyota badge is visible on the blunt front end; if you choose the TRD Pro option, which features semi-retro "TOYOTA" lettering, the badge is much larger. Every trim has its own type of wheels, which range from plain steel on the SR to fashionable alloys with thick rubber on the TRD Pro and TRD Off-Road models.

Though the standard is something to talk about, the Tacoma's inside has a cluttered but attractive appearance, making it the most stylish vehicle in its class. With the help of fascinating graining and sporadic lengths of soft-touch material, large expanses of black and gray plastic look decent here.

So, let's get into these trim levels and what they’re all about!
