    Toyota's SEMA 2024 Takeover

Flooded by hundreds of thousands of automotive enthusiasts every year, the SEMA Show is the largest automotive trade show. It is known for one-off builds by restomodders, independent shops, industry professionals, and auto manufacturers.

The 2024 SEMA Show is no different, as countless projects are all over the Las Vegas Convention Center floor. The most notable creations are from the big names in the automotive industry and Toyota is one of them. With its epic SEMA lineup, the brand brings adventure and unlimited action to the show.

“At Toyota, we have an unwavering commitment to performance and adventure, no matter where our customers find it,” stated Mike Tripp, group vice president of Toyota Division Marketing. “We are passionate about assembling vehicles that fuel and support the lifestyle interests of our customers, and SEMA is the perfect place to show Toyota customers and fans what is possible.”

Toyota’s booth at the 2024 SEMA Show showcases almost all the different styles integrated into automotive culture and enthusiasm. From track driving, off-roading, overlanding, tailgating, and camping to performance driving; the concepts are tailored for every kind of automotive enthusiast, highlighting the capabilities and versatility of Toyota’s vehicles. The brand also debuts the newest member of their Associated Accessory Products (AAP) portfolio, the TRD Forged Billet Upper Control Arm Kit for the 4Runner and the FJ Cruiser.

“At a show like SEMA we want to spark the imagination by taking stock vehicles and upfitting them with our Toyota accessories portfolio to do incredible things,” Tripp stated. “But, of course, this is SEMA, so we have also once again produced some truly amazing, one-of-a-kind vehicle concepts that are sure to thrill our fans!”

Toyota’s booth features everything from a convertible Land Cruiser to an AWD GR86 that pays homage to the 90’s rally icon Celica GT-Four.

Let’s have a brief look at what Toyota showcases at the 2024 SEMA Show.

    4Runner TRD Surf Concept

The original Toyota 4Runner is a staple in the SoCal beaches. The concept, a tribute to Southern California’s vibrant surf culture, takes the cutting-edge modern 4Runner and treats it with the original’s aura. The highlight of the concept is the removable roof, which captures the essence of the original.

The concept is based on an all-new 2025 4Runner TRD Limited with an iForce 2.7L inline-4, which delivers 278 HP through an eight-speed gearbox and a full-time four-wheel drive system. The powertrain kept stock other than a performance exhaust system for a burblier engine note.

The body converted from a four-door to a two-door with functional windows and widened 2 inches at both sides. The suspension system is lifted with long-travel shocks and billet aluminum front upper and lower arms with a Toyota Tundra rear-end housing to complement the new suspension system. New 17” wheels wrapped with 37” tires completes the rugged look perfectly.

    Land Cruiser ROX

Created by Toyota Motor North America’s design studio Calty Design Research, the Land Cruiser ROX (Recreation Open eXperience) concept is another highlight of Toyota’s booth at 2024 SEMA Show. The concept reimagines the open-top Land Cruisers of the past.

The base vehicle is a Land Cruiser 250, and the team modified the body by converting it to a topless off-roader, enhancing the fun of outdoor adventures. Over 50 percent of the vehicle was redesigned and refabricated. It is a concept, but it is a fully functional, working one-off vehicle.

The Land Cruiser ROX features custom-fabricated skeleton doors, a sliding soft-top, an integrated triple-bar roof rack, high-lift front and rear steel bumpers, and Calty-designed 18” billet wheels under widened fenders. The suspension is TRD-engineered and has a 4-inch lift kit, and the track is increased by 8 inches.

    GR86 Rally Legacy Concept

    Toyota GR86 Rally Legacy Concept

A perfect homage to the brand’s rally heritage, the GR86 Rally Legacy shows Toyota’s commitment to its motorsports history, performance cars, and the future of rallying.

Based on the 2024 GR86 Performance Package, the concept proudly wears the iconic Celica GT-Four rally car’s livery. Rally lights up front, large mudflaps, Celica GT-Four inspired rear spoiler, and asphalt rally wheels complete the vintage look. Inside the vehicle, there is a full roll cage and racing seats with red 6-point racing harnesses.

The real story is underneath the car and under the hood. The standard GR86 is converted to four-wheel drive with GR-FOUR AWD drivetrain. Significant modifications are done to the chassis; incorporating GR Corolla’s hubs, spindles, and axles up front. The rear-end also gets the GR Corolla treatment mainly with the differential and housing.

Power also comes from the GR Corolla’s engine. The G16E-GTS engine is fitted with a host of upgrades. The modified engine retains the GR Corolla’s output of 300 HP, but further tuning could increase the numbers.

    Suprabird Tribute

The Suprabird Tribute celebrates the brand’s newest ambassador, the Nascar legend, Richard “The King” Petty. Petty is a revered figure in the world of NASCAR, with seven championships and an astonishing 200 career wins spanning 35 years. His blue Superbird racecar is one of NASCAR’s most iconic machines in the sports.

Suprabird is the idea of Toyota brand ambassador, former Top Gear USA host, and self-proclaimed Supra fanatic Rutledge Wood. The car began life as a standard GR Supra 3.0 from Wood’s personal collection. It has a cold-air intake kit, a cat-back exhaust, a coilover suspension system for less body roll, and custom 19” three-piece wheels at each corner.

The main highlight of the build is its body kit. The custom job recalls the classic look of the original Superbird. The body is completely resprayed in Petty’s signature blue color, and the iconic #43 door number is hand-painted on the roof and doors.

#84 Tacoma TRD ProRunner Race Concept

According to Toyota, the concept showcases the all-new Tacoma's performance, capability, and versatility. It is what a dedicated, race-ready Tacoma could look and feel like. The #84 Tacoma TRD ProRunner Race Concept is a race truck built to compete in the Stock Mid-Size off-road race class.

The build started with integrating the TRD Pro components into a basic, two-door XtraCab Tacoma. Toyota’s Service Parts and Accessories Development team did all the engineering required to fit the TRD Pro’s Fox suspension components. The underside is completely armored with a full skid plate. A custom roll cage is added for increased safety and rigidity. The truckbed is reinforced and houses a dedicated fuel cell and spare wheel carrier.
