WHAT IS THROTTLE LAG?

However capable the BMW M2 is, it still uses a drive-by-wire throttle system that is restricted from the factory. Instead of a mechanical cable between the gas pedal and the throttle valve, electronic sensors and actuators move the throttle blade when you press the gas pedal. The process is intentionally delayed, and manufacturers keep it delayed to meet emissions targets and better efficiency, even though the M2 is a performance car, and to make the car suitable for a wide range of drivers. This is throttle lag, and it is especially annoying in a car like the M2.

The M2 offers different driving modes, and some of them may improve throttle response, but none can completely eliminate it. On top of that, you may want a more dynamic throttle response while still keeping the comfortable suspension or steering settings.     The basic steps of the Pedal Commander® installation are always the same regardless of the vehicle's make and model:
  • Turn off the ignition and wait 10-15 minutes with your driver's door open to allow your ECU to shut down.
  • Disconnect your accelerator pedal assembly plug, then plug in the heads to connectors on the Pedal Commander® harness.
  • Clean up the area where you want to mount the control unit with the alcohol wipe. Stick the bracket with the supplied velcro.
  • After you make sure the cables are secure and won't be tangled, you are ready to enjoy Pedal Commander®.
