WHAT IS THROTTLE LAG?

When you first press down on the accelerator, there is a delay before anything actually happens. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) systems cause this as they take the signal from the accelerator pedal when you press it and send it to the vehicle’s ECU. All of this process causes a delay called throttle lag. Besides, manufacturers deliberately leave the delay there because it makes the vehicle suitable for various types of drivers.

Some may need such precautions, but the delay may become frustrating in some scenarios. Pedal Commander® is the easiest and most effective solution for Scion xB drivers who want power instantly.

HOW DOES PEDAL COMMANDER® IMPROVE YOUR CAR?

Modern vehicles have electronic throttle systems. Contrary to the old cable throttles, where the pedal was physically connected to the throttle valve, new drive-by-wire systems are completely controlled by the vehicle’s ECU. On top of that, the throttle valve’s opening speed and how much it opens are regulated by the manufacturer’s settings. All of this process and electronic control causes a delay in the initial throttle response, called throttle lag. 

The Pedal Commander® throttle response controller modifies the signal from the throttle position sensor. The modified signal transmitted to the ECU makes the throttle valve fully open when you floor the gas pedal, and it also changes the speed the valve operates. This eliminates the unwelcome throttle lag. Pedal Commander® also allows you to customize your xB’s throttle response with its four driving modes with nine increments on each mode.

    The basic steps of the Pedal Commander® installation are always the same regardless of the vehicle's make and model:
  • Turn off the ignition and wait 10-15 minutes with your driver's door open to allow your ECU to shut down.
  • Disconnect your accelerator pedal assembly plug, then plug in the heads to connectors on the Pedal Commander® harness.
  • Clean up the area where you want to mount the control unit with the alcohol wipe. Stick the bracket with the supplied velcro.
  • After you make sure the cables are secure and won't be tangled, you are ready to enjoy Pedal Commander®.
